My Easter Treat

Poem by Mabel Osejindu

I find that every Easter time,
It's Easter egg galore,
But do people really know,
What Easter time is for?

Easter helps us remember,
Of a time quite long ago,
When Jesus died upon a cross,
To pay the debt we owe.

A King so mighty and holy,
Loved us so beyond belief.
He gave his life just for us,
Yet we don't feel any grief.

Because he rose again,
on the third no doubt,
his power of resurrection,
we now scream and shout!

So now at Eucharist
his body and blood we drink,
his earthly sacrifice,
We'll always stop and think.

I trade pleasures for fasting,
and eggs for palm crosses,
I sing his praise on high,
He has all wins no losses.

So chocolates, flowers, gifts,
and all things nice and sweet,
compare nothing entirely,
to my loving Easter treat.
